Back to the Board

Two children guess which flashcard everyone else is miming.

Prepare

Flashcards of your topic, e.g. different feelings. Or you can draw these.

Sticky tack.

Two chairs facing away from the board (and towards the rest of the class).

Play

The class sits facing the board and the two empty chairs.

Two children sit in the empty chairs (facing their friends, but unable to see the board behind them).

Stick a feeling flashcard on the board behind the chairs – or just hold the flashcard up.

Say ‘Ready, steady, go’. The class mimes the feeling – but they cannot speak or make any noise.

When the children in the chairs know the feeling, they put their finger on their noise. Don’t let them shout out.

Ask one of the guessers for the feeling. If you want to make it feel less competitive, get the other guesser to confirm if they think the first guesser is correct.

Then get the guessers to articulate the feeling flashcard in a full sentence, e.g. ‘She’s feeling happy’.

Play for your topic

Adjectives

Ages 7 and up will be able to act out adjectives (e.g. big, small, hot, cold, etc.)

Shapes

Children draw the shape in the air.

Feelings

Play as described above.

Hygiene

Play with different hygiene flashcards (washing your face, brushing your teeth). This will be very easy so best for 3 – 4 years.

Animals

Play with animal flashcards. This could get chaotic as the children will want to move around.

Weather

Children could act out experiencing the different weather (e.g. shiver from cold, put up an umbrella) or ‘be’ the weather (e.g. blowing for wind, using their hands to indicate rain).

Jobs

Ages 6 and up will be able to act out different jobs.

Home

Play with home flashcards.
